Chante Britt is nobody's fool—and she's definitely not standing by her cheating ex-fiancé and current mayoral candidate, Robert Montgomery. Too bad he chose to tell the media otherwise. To escape an onslaught of prying reporters, Chante flees to her grandmother's South Carolina beach house. But when she meets Zach Harrington, she may be out of the frying pan and into the fire. The man is arrogant, way too forward—and way too sexy...

Newly divorced and dealing with a scandal of his own, Zach should stay clear of all women. Yet something about Chante draws him in—maybe it's the drink she throws in his face after his
too-hot-to-handle surprise kiss. Still, Zach firmly believes they can help each other take the edge off. And once he gets her to agree, what could have been a fling promises to be much more—until their personal and public dramas catch up with them. Will past wrongs keep them from finally having the love that's right?

Hodges’s second Rumor contemporary (after Rumor Has It) showcases her skill at writing sexy, hard-won romances. Attorney Chante Britt decides to take her grandmother’s advice to flirt with a stranger while in Charleston, S.C., where she’s escaping the media ploy of her delusional ex-fiancé. Minutes after meeting businessman Zach Harrington, the two enjoy an impromptu kiss with a serious charge of passion. Zach proposes a no-strings sexual relationship, since each is reeling from the fallout of prior relationships. At first his God’s-gift-to-women attitude pushes all the wrong buttons for her, but the couple falls into easy camaraderie, allowing the two damaged souls to rebound from their personal and professional crises. Soon their creative, scorching passion burns up the pages. But Zach does not disclose the full nature of his scandal, and reality sets in as rumors explode, danger ratchets up, and Chante learns the truth. Supportive and villainous secondary characters alike add richness to make this a delicious, immersive page-turner.

Chante and Zach end up at the same Charleston, South Carolina, resort to hide from their infamous exes and the media in this sexy sequel to Rumor Has It (2015). She throws a drink at him during their first meeting, and he goes to her door with a quiche to ask forgiveness, sparking what they think is a vacation flirtation. It gets complicated when Chante's controlling mom thinks they are engaged and their notorious exes return to interfere with their lives. Hodges gives readers two strong, smart characters in Chante and Zach, who have paid long enough for their bad choices and are rewarded with an intense love affair. The chemistry and sex scenes sizzle. The exes are over-the-top villains who bring a crazy, violent twist at the end, enriching the love story. Another fun, dramatic Southern romance from a rising author that will satisfy readers, especially fans of Kimberla Lawson Roby.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
