Many of the "alternative health and wellness secrets" for aging well presented in this book from the editors of Bottom Line Inc. (52 Ways To Beat Diabetes) are common-sense or traditional solutions for typical health issues rather than truly alternative medical remedies. Topical chapters with articles produced by Bottom Line address numerous subtopics, referencing work by various health-care experts, many of whom are MDs, PhDs, registered nurses, dieticians, or other conventional Western medical professionals; some experts have degrees in chiropractic, naturopathy, acupuncture, or other integrative health fields. The book has few illustrations and therefore limited visual appeal, but its brief articles are clearly written, and some include easy-to-follow directions for exercises and recipes. The layout allows readers to select chapters and tips that work for them, rather than being guided through a predetermined comprehensive plan. Readers are consistently reminded to talk to their doctors about potential health regimen changes, such as new supplements or exercise routines. VERDICT A solid option for readers seeking consumer health information on aging.--Monica Howell, Northwestern Health Sciences Univ. Lib., Bloomington, MN
